Applied BioPhysics and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute enter into collaborative research

Troy, NY, May 1, 2003

Applied BioPhysics, Inc. has entered into collaborative research with Dr. George Plopper of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Department of Biology. The research involves the use of ECIS (electric cell-substrate impedance sensing) to monitor the migration of metastatic breast carcinoma cells through confluent endothelial monolayers in vitro. The project will aid Dr. Plopper’s fundamental studies of focal adhesion kinase and integrin-mediated tumor cell extravasion and may ultimately define possible therapeutic targets for inhibiting this stage of metastasis. This research in turn will continue to demonstrate and extend the utility of the ECIS instrumentation for these types of cell behavior measurements.
